New Journal and a New Idea

Journal Entry: Thu Jun 26, 2008, 3:20 PM
A Critic's Service

So I figured that I should get a new Journal CSS to go with this new idea, and something that can help me organize it better.

I have decided that, as a Critic for *getLIT #getlit , I am going to offer my services outside of the chat. However, it will be on a sign up list basis. I know that my critiques aren't perfect, but I am willing to do them. There is one little catch. You first must sign up for a literature critique, and the critique will come in this journal as well as a comment on the piece critiqued.

I want the Critiques to be public, so others can learn from it as well as the writer. I don't think it is too much to ask for.

I will accept requests for literature Critique via note. If you ask for a critique in the chat, I will give it to you in the chat at that time. Critiques through here will be whatever you ask for. Do not ask for more than one piece of literature to be critiqued, and also be specific on what you want critiqued. It must be literature.

In order to request a Critique, you must also request what you are looking for in a critique. I will help with punctuation, grammar, flow, plot, believability, and whatever else you may think you need a little more focus on. I will also do brief breakdown of my reaction, or an in-depth breakdown of every aspect. Keep in mind that in-depth would take a little bit more time.

This is for everyone. You don't even have to be a member of #getlit or any other club. This is all my own doing, and not for *getLIT. I will take at the most of 5 requests at a time. I will list these requests in this journal. Upon completion of Critique, I will have at least a week long feature of the piece critiqued in my journal, as well as a link to the writer's page.

I tend to stay away from the computer on weekends, but I should have results within a week to two weeks. So, request away.

I know there are a couple of pieces that I have neglected, and I beg that the writers request officially via note right now. Remember, this is also a way to get featured on this journal.

Disclaimer: I do reserve the right to deny a critique. I will only accept deviations that abide by the DeviantART Submission Policy and the DeviantART Etiquette Policy. I will report deviations that break those rules.

Featured Critiques

1. :icongaioumonbatou: with Becoming a Fish

~This poem is actually very quaint. I enjoyed reading it, and the imagery is very easy to see. I felt like I was in the shoes of a child with a single desire, to live like a fish, always swimming. The only issue I had with the poem was how it abruptly changed in the last line of the second stanza. I ended up confused, because I kept reading 'tan-shore's edge' together, and not separate. The sentence started out very colorful, with lots of action just in the description, but then bam, it was just a simple ending.

I noticed a missing comma after 'him' in the third stanza. That's all on punctuation.

The imagery was the focus of this critique, and I believe the imagery is very believable. I can see a child racing into the water, but being pressed back by waves, until finally he pushes just hard enough to get past the knockaround current and into peaceful tide. It is very much like prose poetry in the sense that it does have rising tension, narration, climax, and resolution.
