Haikuwrimo March 08
March 1
puddling dirt,
snow shivers slightly, fearing
the coming warm
March 2
sniffles turn,
like pages in a book,
to warm sighs
March 3
West, exclaims the sun,
to a sunset, where sweaters
stay closeted
March 4
intimate whites
congregate within grassy,
sun-filled wedding days
March 5
smelted silver
puffs rain down; refreshing
the season, rebirth
March 6
sleepy eyes open
a bright world; hibernation
hunger takes over
March 7
layers peel off
one cloth at a time, baring
skin for sunburns
March 8
Arizona summer -
more skin to placed
on public showcase
March 9
slowly inching
away into darkness,
shade is luxury
March 10
greens sprout,
cracking a connect-the-dots
across earthen pores
March 11
reaching for the sun,
branches hunch as twilight looms
March 12
exquisite foods
mean nothing to a pregnant
lady's stomach
March 13
sillhouettes stand
higher, above scurrying ants,
tiredly going to work
March 14
petals open, embracing
the sun in all its majesty
only to burn and wilt
March 15
tiny tingles crawl
up and down and all around;
break out the sunscreen
March 16
a soft breeze
gently washes filthy heat
away for another day

An interesting choice to use a simile in a haiku (which will no doubt make the fundamentalist froth at the mouth), but I think it's all good.

Now me lay down to sleep.
Mow da zeebas down like sheep.
Give dem to me nice and dead.

Similes work in haiku, I feel. To heck with the fundamentals.
